History
Cahir Boys N.S. was officially opened on Monday, 14th September 1964. The school was officially opened by Gearóid Ó Súilleabháin from the Inspectorate of the Department of Education. The school was designed to accommodate 160 pupils within four classrooms. 164 pupils transferred from the former school on Church Street to the new school. The opening of the new Cahir Boys School was a factor in the closure of Garryclogher and Ballingeary National Schools in 1969 and 1967 respectively. The male pupils of the establishment transferred to Cahir. The extra numbers led to the erection of two prefabricated classrooms on the school grounds in 1969. Together with the opening of the new Girls School in 1966, the face of primary education in the parish had been transformed in less than a decade. |
