A terrific time in Trabolgan
1st, 2nd and 3rd class headed off to Trabolgan, Co. Cork for their school tour on the 19th of June. The tour included an obstacle course, crazy golf, soccer and time in a play ground. They also got their lunch out. It was a great day and we all enjoyed our day away from school!!

Celebrating different cultures in 2nd class
On June 8th, 2nd class celebrated the different cultures and heritages of the pupils in the class. Each boy presented a project on their country and highlighted the traditions and customs associated with the country. The boys wore the colours of their country of origin. We were lucky enough to sample some traditional Egyptian food Ta'maya and Ful. We also traditional saw Romanaian and Egyptian traditional clothes, We really enjoyed learning about all of the different cultures.

Brendan O'Brien visited the school with a fantastic array of artefacts from 1916, The War of Independence and The Civil War. The boys of 5th class and 6th class were told about the origin and the history of these artefacts. Mr. O'Meara talked to the boys about the history of 1916, The War of Independence and The Civil War. Many thanks to The Cahir Historical Society and Mr. O'Meara for organising this event.

EVERY CAN COUNTS
In conjunction with ABP, the school are partaking in the 'Every Can Counts' recycling initiative. The boys are collecting used aluminium cans that will be given to ABP to be included in their' Every Can Counts' recycling scheme. We recently had a visit from Barry O'Donovan and Annabel White from ABP. Also visiting was Róisín from the Every Can Counts Group. They spoke to the boys about the importance of recycling and also about how the recycling of the cans.
A Group of boys from 6th class researched the recycling of aluminium and prepared a project 'How Aluminium Cans are Recycled'.

Junior Achievement Ireland Engineering Workshop
As part of the Junior Achievement Ireland program Michael Fitzpatrick from Boston Scientific gave a workshop focused on teaching the 6th class boys about engineering. He talked to them about the role of engineers and the work engineers do in Boston Scientific. They then completed a challenge to design and build a bridge using paper. The bridge had to be able to hold a 500ml bottle of water! It was a great workshop and the boys really enjoyed it. Many thanks to Michael and Junior Achievement Ireland for facilitating and organising the workshop.

Incredible Edibles
2nd class had great fun planting turnips, carrots, potatoes, spinach, chives and strawberries as part of the Incredible Edibles programme.
The children will water and take care of the plants over the next few months and hopefully harvest the fruit and vegetables in June.

Eason Spelling Bee
Mikey Carrie from 5th class represented Cahir B.N.S in the Eason Spelling Bee in Cashel on March 15th. Well done to Mikey for making it to the South Tipperary finals and doing the school proud.

World Book Day!
A week later than planned because of Storm Emma and the Beast from the East but great fun was had on World Book Day in C.B.N.S. Children from 1st, 2nd and 3rd class dressed up as their favourite characters from a book. The children put great thought and care into their costumes and it was great to see such imagination shining through. They brought their favourite books into school. They talked about them and read their favourite section from the book. They also had great fun designing a book cover of their very own. Always remember 'You can find magic wherever you look. Sit back, relax all you need is a book' Dr Seuss.

Artist in Primary School Scheme
The boys in the school recently partook in the Artist in Primary School Scheme. As part of the scheme they got to work as stonemasons under the watchful eye of Philip and Liz Quinn. The boys carved Bullaun Stones and they also got to design a Mason's Mark.

Christmas with the Aliens
3rd class put on a spectacular performance of their Christmas play 'Christmas with the Aliens'. We were entertained with beautiful singing, dancing and acting. Well done to Mr.Farrel and the boys on a wonderful performance.

INTEL MINI SCIENTIST EXHIBITION
On Friday 10th November the boys in 6th class exhibited their projects as part of the Intel Mini Scientist 2017. The boys had created a great selection of projects. Included in these projects were topics such as Amazing Motors, Amazing Machines and How Horses Digest Food. On the day you could watch a 'volcano' exploding! Another project looked at the Crayfish Plague in the River Suir and another group investigated Spider Webs! Parents and family were invited to attend the exhibition where they could also learn about Awesome Snakes, Rockets, Dogs and Wolves. The children from other classes visited the exhibition also and they got to see some Super Stop Motions! They learned lots about cows in the project Cows are More Than you Think! and they also learned about airplanes in the project Busy Skies.
The boys had worked hard over the last few weeks researching and preparing their projects. On the day the judges, Philip and Jack from Intel, were very impressed by the projects and the way the boys could explain the background to the projects and also what they had learned doing their projects. Well done to all involved! The winning project on the day was created by Luka and was entitled 'Busy Skies'. Luka will go on to represent the school at the regional final of the competition. The boys from 6th class were given a talk by David Lenane, from the FAI, about racism in sport. The theme of the talk was 'Show Racism the Red Card'.
Following the talk the boys took part in a soccer coaching session. Great fun was had by all! Many thanks to David !
